Signs Your Septic System Is Failing
Catching problems early can mean a targeted repair instead of a full replacement.
Inside the home
Multiple drains slow at once (not just one fixture)
Toilets gurgle when you run laundry or showers
Sewage odours in lowest-level bathrooms
Backups during heavy rain or spring thaw
Outside the home
Standing water or spongy soil over the leaching bed
Bright green grass only above the bed (not the rest of the lawn)
Sewage smell near the tank or bed
Alarm on newer systems with pumps or treatment units
Common causes
